Description
So I wanted to post SOMETHING new here this week before I go.
It was a long, long road artistically to get here. The idea for the paintings has been coming on for about a year now. It started off as female heads with sixties hair styles and eventually came to this.
The series has girls of varying head shapes, hair styles, and colors.
I love working in color so much. I used to paint quite a bit too when I was younger. I even went through a phase in my early twenties where I went over a year without drawing with a pencil. I would only use paint, even for underdrawings of my paintings. I had sworn off doing comics at the time due to what I saw as Image Comics destroying good comics and I thought I would never go back. I wanted to be a painter!
Jump to now...
I'm now at the point where I feel I'm a good enough inker that I can do that as my "day job" and paint paint paint between pages and deadlines.
So the Boney Betties will be a way to channel my nuerosis and OCD as well as work with color the way I like to. This is a simple one. They get more elaboate in design and color.
I like to see what happens when you put one color next to another. Then a third next to those two. The juxtopostion has to be just right to create a desirable vibrational frequency in the eye to move you around the painting in a controlled manner.
I try to forget I'm a comic artist when I'm doing these and just work with feeling. Y'know, in like a "trust the force" kind of way.
I'll ramble on more about these and wierd color theory when I post the others and the final acrylic paintings.
This was done with markers and colored pencils on cardboard.
