Gunnell pencils Batman Commission

Batman Commission I did today. Super fun. Great shapes, solid lighting, good textures, smart design choice, nice and phallic. Joe Weems was loving it til I got to that last part.

But really, that aside, this is a cool piece. I don't take a commission just for the gig, I gotta like it, otherwise there will be no love in it and no point in doing it. I was unfamiliar with Micah Gunnell's work before this but I gotta say, this was a real blast to ink, even though it was on toothy paper it was good paper so that helps. Since this is an art piece and not for print I used some real watery white under the splatters and on the original he really looks rain soaked and as if water is running over him. Didn't quite take in the scan, maybe a photo will work...I will try that.
